The Defense Alliance – Preparing For the Future

Defense Alliance is a grassroots consortium of representatives from government, defense industry and economic development organizations who come together to protect, promote and enhance the military value of Florida installations and missions.

The Alliance is preparing for the future in an ever-changing security environment, where freedom and security cannot be taken for granted. Terrorism remains a major asymmetric threat to the Alliance and global stability. Conflict, fragility and instability in NATO’s southern neighbourhood also affect Alliance security.

Moreover, Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea and destabilising behaviour towards NATO Allies is a serious concern. To counter this, the Alliance is continuing to adapt its defence posture in land, air and maritime domains. It is strengthening its intelligence, exercises and readiness. And it is introducing new platforms and capabilities – including fifth-generation fighter aircraft, advanced missiles, drones and a range of other assets – while maintaining and upgrading its existing arsenal.

At the 2023 Vilnius Summit and 2024 Washington Summit, Allied Leaders agreed significant measures to further strengthen NATO’s deterrence and defence. They approved a new generation of regional defence plans to strengthen forward defences and enhance the Alliance’s ability to rapidly reinforce any Ally that may come under threat. They also committed to expanding the Alliance’s defence industrial capacity to deliver the critical capabilities needed for collective defence.

Finally, the Alliance is strengthening its capacity to protect Allies’ territory, populations and sea lines of communication by addressing hybrid threats through targeted, comprehensive, integrated and innovative approaches. This is part of a wider Alliance effort to strengthen national and collective resilience, through the NATO 2030 agenda and the 2021 Strengthened Resilience Commitment.
